SUCCESS!

This is VERY exciting! I got my blood taken and my medication levels are perfect! I was sweating it because you don't know if your levels are lowered until you have a seizure or blood taken. But, now I know! I hope someone who is taking lamictal stumbles upon this blog and will know that Implanon is safe! I have no idea to make my blog more public, so here is just hoping I guess.

As far as the hair issue goes, my hair doesn't appear any thinner, there isn't an excessive amount of hair in my shower drain and the most hair comes out when I brush it fresh from the shower with tangles and all. So, I don't think there is any cause for alarm. Maybe the vitamins are helping, there is no way to know really. I just got the shampoo today, which I probably should use anyway because my hair is dry all the time it seems.

Well, anyway,  that news put a smile on my face and my mind to rest! Side note: I've been running for about 2 weeks now, 1 hour 4-5 days a week and I still seem to be in that plateau. I lost about 4 pounds but I hope this isn't related. I will keep with it, I have to keep in mind the holidays are coming up and running for an hour might not counteract the massive sugar and Thanksgiving dinners (I have a big family and we have a Thanksgiving weekend. Huge meals 3 times a day over a period of 4 days plus a lot of sitting around and socializing).

So, that is all for now. Next I have to set up my 3 month check up with the doctor who did the procedure sometime soon. It probably won't be until December because the clinic that did it is one of the few bilingual offices and we have a big Mexican-American population so you can imagine the wait.

I digress...

I will update on the 3 month check up and my exciting 3 month anniversary. I know are all as excited as I am.

  1. Thank you SO MUCH for blogging about Implanon!

I am getting married in May and have had a bit of a struggle trying to find a birth control that doesn't hate me. At first, I had my heart set on Mirena, but my doctor advised against it because I haven't had children, so she put me on the patch.

It was horrible! I was nauseous every single day, I woke up with a headache every morning, and began getting migraines again. (I have a history of migraines with an aura, but haven't had them for months) I got two in the same day. Apparently it was the high estrogen levels in the Patch that caused all of those side effects.

So I started thinking about estrogen-free bc and oila! I find your blog! I'm so thankful that you took the time do write all of this. You wrote about every single fear I had about Implanon and put them to rest. I'm actually going to get a few of those vitamins lol

I'm going to keep reading. Thanks again!

  2. I'm glad this blog has helped you! I know how horrible it is when you have a bc that your body just hates. I was on Yazmin and it was AWFUL. I was nauseous everyday just by the smell of food, I completely lost my sex drive, I was moody and just miserable. The only good thing was that my skin cleared up which is why I went on it in the first place and my skin has stayed clear and became much less sensitive to this day.
Anyway, thanks for following! Do you have Implanon already or still considering it?

  3. I went to my OBGYN to ask about the Implanon, and she advised me to try the Depo Shot first since they have the same hormones.

So far it's been alright. At first I was a monster :( I cried over anything, got angry over anything etc. But recently it's been ALOT better.

I've heard lots of scary "forever long period" stories associated the the shot, but I'm praying against it!!

I plan to ask my doctor when I'm supposed to get my next shot if she will consider Implanon now. The thought of actually doing it is terrifying, but I think I'll be alright.

    How is your hair situation?

  4. My hair situation is good. I asked my OBGYN about hairloss associated with Implanon. She said that it is possible, but that also we lose our hair in cycles. So at times, we might lose more than usual at certain times. Also, when we go through super stressful times, that can do it too. AND hair loss from stress can be delayed for several months. It makes a lot of sense.
Now it seems like my hair is fine. I also got it cut and colored and I'm not shedding as much too. So, there are several explanations other than Implanon.
That is so weird your OBGYN recommended the shot first. Just goes to show how different every medical person's advice differs. I guess mine kinda urged the shot, but she didn't object when I settled for Implanon. The shot isn't as permanent and it's probably a litmus test for the way your body reacts. I also didn't know it's the same hormones!
Anyway, I truly hope it works out for you! Tell me all about it if you get it.

  6. thanks for the post. got the implanon and have worried about having it and being on lamictal. but to hear it from a real person and not just online article about med interactions is so calming. i am really paranoid and do not want to get pregnant and wanted to try the implanon but i am on lamictal with can be effected by some birth controls, but i was told that this one wouldn't effect lamictal levels that way, but again nice to hear from someone who is in the same boat.

  7. So you take Lamictal too? Do you take it for seizures or something else? I'm so glad to hear that someone taking Lamictal found this and that it helped!!!

  8. i take lamictal for a mood stabilizer. i was worried that my BC would be effected by lamictal because there are known drug interactions. and my OBGYN said that implanon would be great for me. but i was just scared that there would be interactions between the two. i really don't want to get preganant. so it was relieving that someone is on both and having good results and not just OB telling me.

  9. I'm super late but I'm glad I stumbled upon this. I also take Lamictal and was wondering if implanon would be okay interacting with my meds. Thanks for writing this! I'll def keep following your blog :)

  10. Hi! So I don't know if you'll see this since I see you haven't posted since last year. But I've been on Implanon for awhile now, it will be 2 years in October, and I was perfectly fine the first year and a half I LOVED it. Recently (the past month and a half) my hair has been falling out EXCESSIVELY. I blew it off at first, thinking it would eventually stop, but it seems to have gotten worse (or maybe I'm just paying attention to it more) and I KNOW my hair has gotten thinner. It's not paranoia, that's actually how I noticed at first, my ponytail is about 1/3 smaller than it used to be and you can start to see my scalp on the sides of my head when I pull my hair into a ponytail. I want to say it's the Implanon (I've recently lost 30 lbs so maybe the dosage is now too high for my body?) but I'm not 100% sure. Anyways I was looking online for other people who have dealt with the same thing and I found your blog. It helped me feel a bit better since I started taking vitamins and you mentioned you think it may have helped you. But if you have time, I was hoping you could say if you had any more issues with hair loss and how you dealt with it if you did. Thank you so much!!! Rachel

  11. Yikes! That is scary stuff. I'm coming up on my 2 year anni, so this is something I will pay attention to for sure! Right now, my hair is as thick as ever. I haven't noticed it falling out too much and it just hasn't been a problem. When I was freaking out about possible hair loss, I started taking Biotin and vitamin A and D. Also, have you looked into Iron deficiency? I'm not a doctor or a nurse or medical professional at all, so don't take my advice as 100% medically sound, but look some of that up and see if it helps! Hope things get better for you and sorry to hear it's taking a downturn! Let me know what you decide to do!
